Niz’s good friend and former roommate (we’ll call her D.) and her partner (we’ll call him M.) had a baby boy a while back (we’ll call him lil’ d.) Niz volunteered me to make them a rocking horse, a challenge I gladly accepted. It’s gonna look something like this, but with lots of color and fancy adornments:
November is shaping up to be another busy month for me, but I’m hoping I get a chance to get started on this guy before Thanksgiving. In case you can’t read my chicken scratch notes, this will be a sort of Shetland pony/Pegasus rocking horse. It’s rooted in the form of a traditional rocking horse, but inspired by the endless imagination of childhood. It’ll have (removable) wings with feathers made of paper. It might have a little blunt bronze horn with a blue-green patina too, even though I’ve been informed that Pegasus didn’t have one (mythologically speaking, that is). That’s borrowed just a bit from the rocking horse my friend Thom made for his niece. I’m not sure about the mane and tail yet. Any thoughts on color? Maybe a mustard or light blue for the body…?
Hell, I don’t know yet. All I know is this is going to be fun and challenging, and a good change of pace from the headier pieces I’ve been making lately. I guess we’ll all see when it’s finished and lil’ d. is riding the skies around his windy city neighborhood.
